This Privacy Policy explains how Balcones Digital LLC (d/b/a Tape Desk) (“we”, “us”), operator of Tape Desk (the “Service”), collects and uses your information. By using the Service you agree to this Policy.
We use two outside services to see how people find and use Tape Desk, and to tell whether the ads we pay for are worth paying for. Both run in your browser, and both are loaded after the terminal has finished drawing, never before.
If you are in the UK, the EEA, or Switzerland, neither one loads until you say yes. We ask with a small bar in the corner of the terminal the first time you visit. Until you choose, no analytics or advertising cookie is set and neither service is contacted at all. Choosing “Decline” is final — we do not ask again. See Your choices.
We do not sell your personal information.
There are three ways to turn analytics and advertising off, and they all work:
_fbp, _fbc, and ph_…_posthog cookies and PostHog’s local
storage from your browser.Outside the UK, EEA, and Switzerland, analytics and advertising load on your first visit unless you have declined or your browser sends GPC. Declining never affects the calendar, the news feed, alerts, or your subscription.
Tape Desk uses at most three cookies.
Essential — always set:
Non-essential — set only with your consent, or outside the UK/EEA/Switzerland if you have not declined:
ph_…_posthog — set by PostHog, so a returning visitor is not counted as a new one. PostHog keeps
the same identifier in your browser’s local storage as well._fbp — set by the Meta pixel. This is an advertising cookie. Meta may also set
_fbc if you arrived from one of our ads.We also store your answer to the consent bar in your browser’s local storage, under
mt.consent, so we do not have to ask again. That is the only thing we keep about the choice itself, and
we do not send it anywhere. Blocking the non-essential cookies, or clearing local storage, does not affect the
Service.
To decide whether to show you the consent bar, our server reads the country that our hosting provider (Vercel) works out from your IP address when your browser asks us who you are. We use it for that one decision, turn it into a single yes-or-no, and do not store it or send it to anyone.
We share the minimum necessary data with providers that operate the Service on our behalf: Google (sign-in), Stripe (payments), Vercel (hosting), Neon (database), Sentry (error monitoring), PostHog (product analytics), and Meta (advertising measurement). This list is current as of the date above and will be updated here if it changes. We do not sell your personal information.
We retain account data while your account is active. You may request access to, export of, or deletion of your personal data by emailing us; we will delete it except where we must retain records (e.g., tax/payment records) by law.
We use reasonable technical measures to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
The Service is not directed to individuals under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
We may update this Policy; material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
